Halloween is just around the corner, and I was so excited to have the opportunity to work with Martha Stewart Crafts® and Plaid Crafts to come up with a fun project for the occasion. I opted to make a Halloween centerpiece using products from the new Martha Stewart Decoupage line.
Check out all the goodies they sent me!
Martha Stewart Crafts® Decoupage products can be found at Michaels. They are all dishwasher safe, machine washable, non-yellowing, dry hard with no tack, and can be used indoors or out. They can also be used on any surface, such as glass, fabric, paper, metal, wood — you name it.
For my centerpiece, I started with just a basic cylinder-shaped glass vase.
I used the Gloss decoupage and brushed it onto the vase.
I used gold spiderweb patterned decoupage paper to cover the vase. I brushed the decoupage onto the back of the paper little by little as I applied it. Then, I brushed a layer of decoupage on top of the paper smoothing it out as I went along. One thing I noticed about this paper is that it is so easy to smooth out and it doesn’t rip easily like regular tissue paper does.
I allowed the paper to dry for a little over an hour.
After the paper had dried, I added some black lace trim to the top and bottom of the vase using the decoupage to adhere it. I just had to go slowly and brush it on as I went.
Then, I used the Martha Stewart Crafts multi-surface high gloss paint in “beetle black” and stencils to spell “BOO!”.
I filled the vase with candy corn, then added branches from the yard with little plastic spider rings hanging from them.
I can’t say enough good things about these products. I have always loved Martha Stewart Crafts® products, and the Decoupage formulas and finishes are no exception. There is such a wide variety of products in this line to play around with, and so many project possibilities.

It turned out really well! The one great thing about Martha Stewart products is that you know it’s going to be good quality if she puts her name on it (at least that has been my experience thus far).
The spider rings creep me out a little, but they make the look…
How have you not eaten the candy corn??? 🙂
