Since I’ve been knee deep in a bedroom makeover for the One Room Challenge (details here), I’ve had headboards on the brain. While I didn’t opt to DIY our master bedroom headboard (read about that decision here), I do think that in many situations a DIY headboard is the way to go. It’s a great way to save money (depending on what type you want to make), and the possibilities are endless when it comes to customization. I thought I would round up several DIY headboard ideas to get your creative juices flowing and hopefully inspire you.
I did build my two older boys’ headboards a few years ago, and I shared a full tutorial here. They are still one of my favorite things about their bedroom, and I love that they have something special in their room that I made just for them. (I do need to make a larger one for Jake now that he’s out of the toddler bed though! It’s been on my list for ages.) You can see more of their bedroom here.

I love the fact that with a little bit of time and effort, you can create your own headboard and end up with something totally unique and unlike anything anyone else has.
