Wow, this weekend flew by fast. Preparations are officially underway for project “baby to big boy room,” and we spent all of Saturday shopping at IKEA. Although it’s pretty much always a day-long process to visit IKEA, it was worth it because we came away with some serious bargains, including a twin mattress and box springs for Aiden’s “big boy bed.”
Here’s a look at our (very full) shopping cart + the mattress and box springs:
We had to go the redneck route and strap the box springs to the top of the car. This was quite an adventure! We avoided major highways (not out of embarrassment but out of fear) which as you can imagine is quite difficult in Atlanta. We took a long round-about way home but we made it with box springs intact! Winning! (And yes, I know we need a minivan.)
We also got new sheets and comforters for both boys (I hope to make duvet covers), curtains (I will be doing something fun to these too) and a curtain rod, frames for the walls, and a few other odds and ends.
I also found the perfect night stand on Craigslist which the hubby picked up today, and I will be painting it very soon. Stay tuned! Fun changes are a comin’.
Just to recap, my youngest son is still in a crib and my 4 year-old has been relegated to the guest room since little bro interferes with his sleep. We are transitioning Jake (the youngest) from the crib to a toddler bed, and Aiden from the toddler bed to a twin bed, and we are going to attempt to put them back together in a shared room. Here’s their room right now:
The goal is to give them a fun “big boy” space that they can both feel comfortable and “at home” in. This might also involve me attempting to use my jig saw again – this time, to make a headboard.
On Sunday, I spent the day thrifting with my friend Erica since I was still on the lookout for a few things for the boys’ room. Unfortunately I didn’t find the items on my list, but I did find this awesome large basket for a whopping $5.00! I stashed some pillows and a cozy throw inside it and put it underneath my card catalog cabinet.
Even though I didn’t find much, it was a fun day of lunch and shopping with a friend. Did you do any thrifting over the weekend? Do you have any advice for getting your kiddos to share a room without keeping each other awake until the wee hours? If so, please share!
