Disclosure: I received this stencil for free to review. All opinions are my own.
One of the projects on my never-ending “to do” list is to clear out the clutter in our garage and create a glam, girly DIY workshop. I finally got started by working on a stenciled pegboard to hang all of my tools on. I used the Herringbone Shuffle stencil from Royal Design Studio. (P.S. Stay tuned for a fun giveaway at the end of this post!)
I started with two basic white 2’x4′ pegboards from Home Depot.
I set up shop in the driveway with a plastic drop cloth underneath the pegboards and got to work. Royal Design Studio was nice enough to send me the stencil as well as a pot of their stencil creme and a stencil brush. I originally requested the Antique Gold stencil creme, but at the last minute changed my mind and ordered the Bright Gold. I thought it would be a better fit for this project, but I look forward to using the Antique Gold in the future.
For the other colors, I purchased Behr paint samples since I knew I wouldn’t need much paint. A little bit goes a long way when you’re stenciling. I wanted a peachy coral/mint/gold color scheme so I chose Cool Melon, Reef Green and Lemon Drops in the Behr Premium Plus Ultra formula, which has primer built in.
A quick tip when you are stenciling a wall or a large surface: I like to fold a little bit of painters tape and stick it underneath my stencil to keep it from sliding around while I work. If it’s a wall you’re stenciling, you could just tape the edges down.
It’s also important to blot most of the paint off of the brush. If your brush is too saturated, the paint will seep under the stencil.
I love Royal Design Studio stencils because they are really easy to work with. They’re not too flimsy and they’re just the right size. They’re big enough to cover a large surface, but not so big that they’re difficult to manage. I think the Herringbone Shuffle pattern is a lot of fun. I loved mixing a few colors for a little bit of a whimsical effect.
Here are a few shots of the process:
Sadly I haven’t had time to clear out the garage yet and hang these pegboards, but I will very soon and I can’t wait to show you my progress as I create my little workshop. I’m looking forward to seeing these with all of my tools hanging on them.
I’m so excited to share that one of you will win a Royal Design Studio $50 shopping spree! To enter, just wait for the Rafflecopter box to load below and follow the instructions. The giveaway ends Tuesday, September 24 at midnight EST.
