I’m so excited to share this project with you today! If you enjoy DIY, then I think you’ll love the product I used to make this. (Stay tuned for a giveaway at the end of this post!) Today I am sharing how I made this Weathered Wood Photo Frame using Driftwood Weathered Wood Finish from DIYDriftwood.com.
The Weathered Wood Finish is a natural powder, and when you add it to water it allows you to create your own beautiful weathered driftwood finish. I love the natural-looking finish that this product produces, and I love that it is safe, simple to use and easy to clean up. The color is subtle, which makes it look naturally weathered as opposed to an obviously stained piece. I used pine wood, and the finish created a nice light bluish-gray tint. (Hard woods like oak and mahogany will produce a darker bluish-gray color.) You can use it on bare, unfinished or sanded wood. It was seriously so easy! I didn’t notice any odor which is a major plus too. One of the things I don’t like about regular stains is the fact that the fumes can be really strong, so I love that this doesn’t have that issue. You can find more information about this product here.
For this project, I used just a few simple supplies. I wanted to use what I already had on-hand, so I used a piece of scrap wood cut to 9″ x 11″.
First, I mixed one package of DIY Driftwood Weathered Wood Finish powder with one cup of water.
Then I applied two coats (allowing the first coat to fully dry before adding the second) with a paint brush.
After it dried, I used silver glitter tape to create a “framed” look and to attach a sweet photo of my boys. You could attach hanging hardware to the back, or just prop it up on a shelf or stand it up on a table like I did. It doesn’t get easier than that!
I cannot stress to you enough how simple this project was. By the way, any type of washi tape could work if you’re not into glitter. You could also modify the size of the frame depending on what type of wood scraps you have on-hand.
