We all know that baby gear and toys are a breeding ground for germs, and they get crud in all the nooks and crannies and are just plain gross sometimes. Being on baby number 3, I admit that I’ve dropped the ball on staying on top of sanitizing stuff. (Hey, he will have an amazing immune system, right?) But honestly, I need to do a better job of keeping things clean. Today I’ll show you how to clean and sanitize toys and baby gear without using chemicals, thanks to the HomeRight SteamMachine.
The SteamMachine uses pressurized steam to loosen dirt and grime and kill bacteria. It’s definitely a handy tool to have in a house full of children!
I recently showed you how you can use it to remove wallpaper, but this tool is amazing for cleaning and sanitizing too. It comes with several different attachments for a variety of cleaning jobs. I decided to get to work cleaning our high chair and a bin full of baby toys. For this job, I used the small nylon brush attachment.
One great feature of the SteamMachine is the safety mechanism — simply switch the trigger to the locked position and your kiddos can’t pull the trigger and burn themselves.
Here is our high chair right after lunch — don’t judge! As I mentioned, this is kid number 3 so we don’t even bother with the seat cover anymore.
Some of that caked on crud is so hard to scrub off! The SteamMachine got it off in seconds. I just doused the high chair in steam, scrubbed with the attachment, and then gave it a quick wipe with a paper towel. Done. I like the small brush attachment because it makes it easy to scrub the little nooks and crannies.
I also gathered some plastic baby toys in a bin and sanitized them with steam.
I just piled them in the bin on top of a large towel, gave them a good long shot of steam, and then let them air dry. If you don’t have a plastic bin, a laundry basket or bath tub would work fine too.
Since I already had the small nylon brush attachment on, I just used that, but the jet nozzle would work well for this too.
Yay for a gunk-free high chair and germ-free toys!
The SteamMachine comes in handy for so many things, but I especially love the idea of sanitizing without using chemicals, particularly with small children in the house. Think of all the things you can sanitize with it besides toys and kid gear — toilets, countertops, tubs and showers, car interiors, ovens, stoves, grills, and so much more.
