Once a month, I get together with a group of blog friends and we each share a project that fits with a specific theme. This month’s theme was a bit of a wild card, so we are sharing 12 DIY Home Improvement Project Ideas! I had a tough time narrowing down which project I wanted to share for this month’s series, but ultimately it came down to one of my most popular posts to date, and one of the most inexpensive but high impact projects we’ve done in our home so far. I shared a tutorial for how to whitewash a brick fireplace, which I did shortly after moving into our home 2 1/2 years ago, and it is still one of my favorite projects I’ve done in our house.
Here is what it looked like before:
And here it is now:

Erin, your fireplace looks amazing! Beautiful transformation!
Thanks so much, Debbie!
Erin, Thanks for sharing this post and the pics. The fireplace looks amazing. I am planning on doing this to one of my rent houses this weekend, and wasn’t quite sure how to do it. I clicked over to your article showing how to do this, and your instructions are amazing.
One quick question, what did you do in the book shelves..is that wooden pickets in the background? If so did you attach them to the wall with nails, or glue? I think it makes the books shelves look amazing in the pics.
Thanks so much John! It’s actually “Woods” wallpaper from Anthropologie. I attached it with thumb tacks so it would be easily removable later.
