With the holidays coming up, I am going to be doing a ton of online shopping, and as usual I will be buying plenty of stuff from Amazon. When I heard about Key by Amazon In-Garage Delivery option, I was intrigued and really excited to try it. I am always looking for increased convenience (who isn’t, right?), so this seemed great to me.
Here’s how it works. First, I downloaded an app for the Amazon Key cloud cam, and also an app for the Smart Garage hub. (Our garage door is ancient so it didn’t have wifi capability.)
Then, I installed the hub by attaching the sensor to the garage door.
Next, I attached the hub to the ceiling near my garage door opener.
I synced the two, and the app walked me through every step. Installation was super easy.
After the Smart Garage hub was installed and set up, it was time to set up my cloud cam. This just took a minute, and again, the app walked me through it. It just needed to connect to our wifi and it was good to go.
Since I synced the Key by Amazon App with my Amazon account, I am able to choose “in-garage delivery” as an option when I get to the shipping portion of my order checkout. Then, the Amazon delivery person is able to access my garage and leave my package inside, ensuring that nothing happens to it. This provides peace of mind, especially if I’m not home during delivery or if I happen to be traveling, and I feel safe doing this since I have a camera set up and can see the Amazon delivery person drop it off.
I wanted to test it out so that I could share my experience with you, so I ordered some large light bulbs for my photography lights. The Amazon delivery man opened my garage, nicely placed my box on my makeshift workbench, and left quickly after closing the garage. I was able to see the whole thing recorded via the app on my phone. Here’s a screenshot:
At first, I have to admit I was a little hesitant to try this since the idea of giving a stranger access to my garage made me a little bit nervous. But after I learned more about it and knew that everything would be on camera, it made me feel a lot more comfortable with it. And now, I would definitely do it again! It was a great experience and super convenient. It’s nice to know that it’s an option too when we go out of town. That way, packages aren’t left outside the house for multiple days, and I can just check my app to see the activity going on in my garage.
I know we will be doing a lot of holiday shopping soon, so this is such an awesome option to have since we will be expecting so many deliveries. Will you be giving Key by Amazon In-Garage Delivery a try? Or have you used it before? You can see if it’s available in your area. Let me know in the comments!

As a amazon delivery driver I am not a fan. Amazon has is going into people back yards and now we have to go into their garage? Just put a camera out front. Some people will live in the middle of nowhere but still want you to hide their package in the backyard. I have 200 deliveries everyday. What if everybody had me go through this process. Can’t work.

Sounds like an issue to take up with Amazon directly. I understand that’s probably frustrating.
