I’ve mentioned our Atlanta Home & DIY Bloggers group many times, and I love being a part of it for so many reasons. We always have a great time at our meetups, and this month’s meetup was no exception. Woodstock Market was kind enough to host us and provide lunch, and Bob’s Upholstery held a class for us.
Look at the adorable setup they had for us! They even gave us goodie bags.
There was a candy bar and a “DIY Bloggers Buffet.” How cute is that?
We also received a paint demo from Laura of Rethunk Junk, and we got samples in our gift bag which I can’t wait to try.
As for the upholstery class, we learned all about diamond tufting. It seems intimidating and difficult, but I think it’s one of those things that hopefully becomes much easier after you tackle it once or twice. I do plan on attempting it at some point! Of course I’ll keep you posted on how that turns out.
Here are the basic steps:
Measure and draw a grid on your plywood. Then drill holes to create “diamond” shapes.
Attach your foam and batting and then cut/drill holes through the layers.
Measure from the inside of each hole to the inside of the hole next to it, then draw a guide on your fabric with chalk.
Start in the center, and attach your button either using an upholstery needle and thread and then stapling the thread to the back of the plywood after you’ve inserted it, or you can use nail buttons or upholstery buttons with prongs.
After you’ve got the center button tufted, move on to the holes closest and tuft those next. Use your fingers to form the crease, and the crease openings should face downward “so they don’t catch water”.
In conclusion, you should probably just take a class from Bob’s Upholstery or hire them to do your upholstery work. 😉 It’s a lot less complicated that way.
After the upholstery class, Woodstock Market provided lunch for us at their cafe and we even had group photos taken in their portrait studio. It was a really fun day! I bought something fun with the gift card they gave us, and I’ll show you that soon.
Big thanks to Lisa, Karen, and everyone at Woodstock Market for making us feel so welcome!
