Whenever I design a room, generally the first thing I do is put together a mood board. By sifting through inspiration photos, sourcing specific items, searching for DIY ideas, etc., I am able to get a feel for exactly what I want the room to look like and the vibe I want it to have. Sometimes I do this digitally, and sometimes I do it by gathering specific colors, finishes, textures, and accessories. Carpet One recently sent me a box of items, including their “Twenty of 2020” flooring products, along with some paint swatches, and asked me to gather some items and create a mood board for a room I would love to have. I had so much fun putting it together!
First, I chose the Rustic River Roosevelt Hill hardwood flooring in the color “Summerfield.” This flooring is made of Red Maple, comes in 7″ planks and has a smooth appearance. I like the relatively light tone of it as well as the fact that the texture isn’t too scraped.
Then, I chose a few paint swatches, I am loving the contrast of black and white right now, but wanted to incorporate some nature-inspired colors like sky blue and green. I chose the Pantone colors “Pirate Black,” “Lightest Sky,” and “7726.”
I went shopping at HomeGoods and Hobby Lobby and picked up a seagrass basket (I love the texture), brass and lucite hardware, and a patterned throw blanket. I also pulled a few items from around the house, like some succulents, a brass bowl, and a pillow. Ultimately I love layering textures, patterns, and materials when I decorate. My style tends to be more of a combo of modern and boho, but I call it “eclectic” because I really do love a mix of so many different styles.
