As most of you know, my main project right now is refinishing the dresser that I found on Craigslist. At $40 it was a total bargain, and I plan on using it in our main family room as a console/accent table. I am making some serious progress this week! So far, I have the top stained and sealed, and have sanded, primed and painted one coat on the base. I’m hoping just one more coat will be enough, but since I am doing thin coats it may need two more.
Here is a sneak peek (keep in mind, the white part is just primer – I hadn’t added paint yet when this photo was taken.):
Sneak Peek: Mid-Refinish |
As I mentioned before, this is my inspiration photo for what I want my dresser to look like:
I’d like to take a few minutes to talk about the blog where I found this photo, because after all, Shaunna from Perfectly Imperfect deserves a lot of credit for inspiring me on this project. If you are interested in refinishing a piece of furniture and you’re not sure where to start, or even if you’ve done it before and you’d just like to try out some new techniques, check out Perfectly Imperfect. I recently purchased Shaunna’s e-book, which I highly recommend. There are so many great tips in it and it is such a wonderful guide for anyone looking to refinish a piece of furniture. Whether you are looking to paint, stain, dry brush, glaze, etc., this book is a wonderful resource. P.S. You don’t have to have an e-reader to download the book. There is a pdf version as well.
I hope to finish the dresser by this weekend. I can’t wait to share photos of the final product! Then it will be on to the next project: Finding the perfect piece of furniture to paint turquoise. Yes, turquoise (or robin’s egg blue – it’ll be somewhere between the two). I am inspired and can’t wait. Just trust me on this one – you’ll see. I’m currently keeping my eye out for a great bargain-priced piece to experiment on.
I have a “to-do” list a mile long so I will be sharing lots of projects with you as time goes on.
On another (random) note, check out this adorable little blue tray I scored in the Target dollar bin this week!:
Yes, the dollar bin! Where treasures can almost always be found. They had a few different colors to choose from. Mainly pretty pastels for Easter.
Also, there is still time to enter my Handmade Wreath Giveaway! Details here.

Yes, I was up late thinking about that dresser. Thinking of where I would put it, and I even looked through Craigslist to see if I could find one, but I haven’t given up hope. And I get the turquois. That is really in right now, and I have even been thinking of different ways to incorporate it in my house. I have a buffet that I had thought about doing that to, but it wouldn’t work with my wall color, so I was actually thinking about doing that dresser idea with it instead. Thank you for the inspiration. I have actually been working on getting my own blog up and running, but it has been a slow process. I will probably be featuring your projects on there, and I will let you know when I do. 😉

Thank you, Emily, for the kind words! I’m so glad that you like the blog and that it has inspired you. You will find the perfect piece of furniture! Don’t give up on Craigslist. There are diamonds in the rough posted on there daily. Other great places to try are thrift stores (Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc.) and garage sales. Flea markets are great too. Good luck, and let me know when you find one! Can’t wait to check out your blog when you get it running. Thanks again!
