I’ve been playing around with different arrangements in our entry hall and I thought I’d go ahead and share a little “entryway update” with you.
If you’ll recall, we moved in a few months ago and we were working with a blank slate:
Here’s where we are currently after collecting items from around the house in an attempt to use what we already have.
This may change again soon since I’m just playing around with different arrangements, but as of now this is what it looks like. Eventually I plan on painting the walls and eradicating all of the yellowy builder beige in sight, but for now it stays. The console table was a thrifty find at a local antique market. Just to refresh your memory this is what it looked like before:
The console used to serve as a mini buffet table in our dining room at our old house, but it fits perfectly in our entryway now.
Funny story about the mirror in the entryway hall. It’s a cheap Wal-Mart mirror and it used to be in our old family room. I didn’t really have a place for it anymore so I posted it on Craigslist, and when it didn’t sell I decided to pile it in the basement for a future garage sale. As my husband was getting ready to carry it down to the basement, I said, “Wait a minute, let’s just see what it looks like here,” and at the last minute it was saved. Who knows how long it will stay in this spot, but for now it works.
The roses came from our yard and I love the vibrant color. When we first moved in I thought the previous owners went a little crazy with the rose bushes (there are several lining the front of our house and then there is an entire rose garden in the back yard), but as soon as they started blooming I was so happy they planted so many! Right now most of them have died, but I’m desperately trying to get them to bloom again.
I’ll keep you updated on progress as things evolve in the entryway, but I have lots of other rooms to focus on and I’m trying my best to cram some projects in before the baby is born. Stay tuned!

I love the size of your entry and that beautiful curved stair railing. I think this looks fabulous, just enough and the console is perfect. The mirror is great too. Can’t wait to see more.

Thanks so much, Marty!

Was that console table a console stereo in a former life? It looks very much like the one we had when I was a kid. The doors opened up to reveal the speakers and the top lifted up to access the record player and radio. Some of them even had tape decks – either cassette or 8-track. lol

Hi Melanie! No, this one was not a stereo console although I have seen some that look very similar like you mentioned. This one doesn’t have a top that opens and just has two doors that open with a shelf inside, and the middle “fake door” that doesn’t open. 🙂

I absolutely adore the painted piece you did for the entryway! Love it!

first thought… your entryway looks a lot like YHL’s entryway just that their stairs are switched on the other side. I think a fun color door like theirs would look pretty in your space too (or black).
and next… I love the console there – it is the perfect fit in that space! and I love how you have accessorized it too. The mirror goes perfect and helps add some color/contrast until you get around to painting.
I can imagine your list of projects and upgrading is a mile long – one by one you will get them done 🙂
