How to Light a Charcoal Grill Fast

March 4, 2016 By Erin Spain 19 Comments

Disclosure: This post is in partnership with HomeRight. All opinions are my own.

Spring is fast approaching, which means grilling season is coming soon! We live in the South, so we pretty much grill out all year long. We love our charcoal grill, but we don’t love waiting forever to light it and get it ready to grill. I’m so excited to have found out how to light a charcoal grill fast—as in 2-3 minutes! The HomeRight ElectroLight Fire Starter is seriously a game changer. (Stay tuned for a giveaway at the end of this post!)

How to Light a Charcoal Grill in 2-3 Minutes

My favorite thing about the HomeRight ElectroLight is that it eliminates the need for lighter fluid or chemicals. It simply uses extreme heat (1300 degrees) to ignite the coals.

*Note: Use extreme caution when using this tool! Follow all safety precautions in the user manual.

What You’ll Need:

  • HomeRight ElectroLight Fire Starter
  • Charcoal Grill
  • Charcoal
  • Outdoor Extension Cord

 Step 1

Plug in your ElectroLight and press the red button, and it blows 1300 degree air onto your coals. As a safety feature, you must continue to depress the button the entire time. Touch the tip of the ElectroLight onto the coals until you see embers forming.

Step 2

Then, pull the ElectroLight back away from the coals a bit and let it continue blowing air across them to fan the flames for a couple of minutes.

Step 3

Your grill is totally ready to go in 2-3 minutes flat. No lighter fluid necessary. Grill your food and enjoy!   My husband was quite confused when I told him we wouldn’t need any lighter fluid. He kept asking me, “Are you sure?”. He’s completely in love with the ElectroLight! He gave it a try and couldn’t believe how quickly it worked. We use it all the time now.

We love our charcoal grill—gas is convenient but there’s just something about a charcoal grilled burger! So good. The Electrolight can be purchased on HomeRight’s site or Amazon.

Now for the fun part! One of YOU will win your very own HomeRight ElectroLight Fire Starter—perfect for charcoal grills or fire pits. To enter, simply follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter widget below. The giveaway ends Friday, March 11 at Midnight EST.

This would be such a fun surprise for my husband since he loves to grill. It would be really good because his birthday is coming up.

Love that you don’t need lighter fluid for this! We have fires and grill out a lot! I am tired of hearing how we ran out of lighter fluid.

The last time we attempted a barbecue, we ultimately gave up trying to coax heat out of our charcoal, and cooked inside!

What a cool gadget! I’m with you on the charcoal grill – we bought one as a placeholder until we did gas, but have loved it so much, we don’t plan on getting rid of it anytime soon!

I’ve pretty much given up eating bar-b-que unless it is cooked over coals that have not been soaked in lighter fluid. I can taste it on the cooked food no matter how long the coals have been burning to let the vapors escape. Sounds crazy but I really can. My husband thinks I’m bonkers but I have a few friends who can tell also. So, I’d love to win this but if I don’t I’m getting myself one anyway!
