Last weekend we had a couple of artsy craftsy sort of days. My boys absolutely love to paint, so we headed to Hobby Lobby and picked up some supplies. We did a couple of projects, and one of them was painting on canvas with acrylic paint. They loved it! And it was so much fun to see their little eyes light up as they created sweet masterpieces.
I purchased a two-pack of 8×10 canvases and some acrylic paints.
I already had some brushes, and I used paper plates as their palette. Then, I let them loose.
Aiden (5 years old) painted an abstract parrot, of course. He is in the midst of a major bird phase. He is fascinated by them and loves them all. He knows all sorts of obscure facts about them. He is also quite a little artist. All he does 24/7 is read, write and draw. He wants to be an author and illustrator when he grows up, and his hero is Eric Carle.
Jake (3 years old) created a beautiful sunset.
He also created quite a work of art on himself.
I will say that if you plan on doing this with your children, make sure they are wearing clothes that you don’t mind getting stained. Acrylic paint is very hard to wash out of clothing. I also used garbage bags as drop cloths and made sure we had lots of wet wipes and paper towels handy. I think they liked this even better than the last time we painted.
I can’t wait to start a gallery wall in the play room to display their little works of art. Stay tuned for that soon!
