Two months after we moved into our new home, we were still horrifying our neighbors by having NO window treatments. None. Well, I take that back. I did hang some plain curtain panels in our bedroom (after about a month), and then some curtains in the other bedrooms after about a month and a half. But our front bay windows downstairs — the main ones the neighbors can see in from the street — were totally bare. I’m happy to say that has finally changed thanks to Payless Decor! I installed some beautiful custom bamboo roman shades and we absolutely love them! I think our neighbors are pleased too. 😉 Here they are in our living room:
And in our currently almost identical dining room:
I have big plans for these rooms, but right now there’s not much to see. I’ll be painting both rooms very soon and will show you more then.
As for the windows, I chose the Premium Bamboo Roman Shades in Java Vintage, which is a beautiful dark wood shade that goes beautifully with our dark floors. These window shades come in several colors though.
They were easy to install, in fact I installed all of them myself. All you need are a few simple tools. (A pencil, a drill, and a screwdriver.)
My friend Rhoda has a helpful video on how to install the same shades, and you can check that out here.
Payless Decor is a local company, so I recently headed over to their warehouse for a tour.
I was so impressed by how much attention to detail is given to each window shade they make. You can tell that they truly care about the quality of their products. Unlike many other companies, most of their products are made right here in their Atlanta warehouse which allows them to maintain higher quality and pass on savings to their customers.
After cutting, they hang each shade up to test them and make sure everything works properly.
Since they make custom shades in all sizes, they even make their own boxes for shipping.
Since it is a small business, they are able to keep their prices very reasonable. They have a wide variety of shades to choose from too, including many cordless options that are safe for kids and pets. They ship for free and have a low price guarantee. Payless Decor also generously donated window coverings for our Dwell with Dignity project. I love supporting small businesses, but of course it makes me even happier to support a business that is willing to give back and help out with a good cause.

I love them! Fortunately our house already had blinds on almost all of the windows…but our living room/kitchen are naked! It’s not a big deal until the neighbor next door plays basketball, at which point he can see me sitting here on my computer in my pj’s…whoops. 🙂
