Well, “Project Nursery” is officially about to commence, and this has caused a domino effect of room rearranging. Right now, the soon-to-be nursery is our guest bedroom. Please don’t judge as this room had not been touched since the movers dumped furniture in here when we moved in a few months ago, and it’s also become a drop zone for off-season kid’s clothes and baby gear. These were just quick shots I took before Chris started hauling stuff out of the room.
You can expect this room to look 100% different very soon.
We decided that it makes the most sense to move the guest bed into Chris’ office and turn that room into an office/guest room, rather than have the baby’s room double as the guest room. This actually took a little bit of convincing on my part since Chris wasn’t overly enthusiastic about the switcheroo. His office is his “man space” in this house, and the only place he really considers totally “his.” He finally came around though and realized that it really does make more sense to have an office/guest room rather than a kid’s room/guest room. We also have the playroom as a secondary guest room, so ultimately the sensible thing to do is just move the guest bed out of the nursery and into the office. This way, we won’t have to displace our child every time someone comes to visit.
This means that the office couch had to be moved to make room for the bed. So the guest bed is headed to the office, and the office couch has been moved down to the front living room where it will serve as a space-saver until I get my dreamy IKEA sofa someday.
The living room is pretty bare right now, but here we are at the moment.
The mirror is from Home Decorators Collection, the sofa/futon is from Target, and the rug is from Rugs USA (details here). I’m still in love with this card catalog that my grandparents scored for me. You can read that whole story plus see how I refinished it here. The painting sitting on top of it was given to us by Chris’ grandmother, AKA “Mema” who just turned 93 years old and is still as spunky as ever! 🙂 The hydrangeas came from our yard and I dried them.
Since we don’t have a huge need for a formal living room, this room will eventually double as my office/craft space. For now I have a small desk in our bedroom and I usually just work in there and craft in the dining room. We have plans for a larger desk for the living room to serve as my crafting area at some point in the future. (Not sure yet if I will build or buy — depends on whether I find what I’m looking for at a bargain price.)
Right now we are in furniture-moving mode. (And by “we” I mean Chris, with help from his brother who recently came to visit.) They moved the heavy furniture out of the nursery and into the basement, the couch out of the office, and Chris just moved the bed into the office, so aside from a few odds and ends, that has left a blank slate for me in the nursery so that I can get started.
First up, paint! Here is my nursery mood board to refresh your memory as far as the direction I’m heading with the room. I made this crib mobile and I got some pretty fabric from Online Fabric Store which I’ll be turning into curtain panels very soon, so stay tuned. I have lots of plans for the room so I can’t wait to show you the progress as I go along!

So glad I am not the only one playing musical furniture in my home and have several unfinished rooms 🙂 Currently have no dressers in our bedroom waiting for me to finish painting dressers to go in there and just moved a smaller dresser in the hall in to hopefully serve as a nightstand so have an empty spot in the hall to fill with something. 🙂 Fun, fun!
Can’t wait to see the nursery progress!

Most rooms in our house are “in transition” right now. I feel like decorating takes an eternity — nothing is ever done, and just when I think I’m almost done, I change my mind and start all over. 🙂 Looking forward to seeing your bedroom makeover progress too!

Ch-ch-ch-changes!! Baby # 3 was all about refiguring spaces for us, as well! I cannot wait to see your curtain panels and nursery evolve!! I bet you’re getting excited 🙂

Thanks! Yes I am getting excited, but a little freaked out since I still haven’t started the room and time is starting to go by quickly now!
