Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Rainguard, but all opinions, photos and not so great amateur videography are my own.
You guys — you’re not even going to believe this product. I had to make a video to show you because it’s hard to convey exactly what it does in photos alone. You may remember last year I waterproofed our porch with Rainguard. Well, they’ve come out with a new product called Hydro-Lok and this stuff is pretty amazing.
It creates a moisture barrier on almost any surface. According to Rainguard, it creates a clear, deep-penetrating, and non-film-forming chemically-reactive water repellent that contains no silicone oils, paraffin wax, or urethanes. Basically, it waterproofs your stuff and protects it from mold, mildew and water damage. You can use it on so many things: work boots, gloves, patio furniture, driveways, wood, leather, metal, concrete, canvas, porous stone, and more. I opted to use it on my favorite outdoor pillows that I bought at West Elm a couple years ago and have been afraid to use outside because they are mostly white and I don’t want them to get ruined. (Wise purchase, right?)
Not only did I pour water on my pillows and watch it bounce right off, but I also poured red wine on them! Yes, on my white pillows! It came right off.
Check out this video to see this stuff in action. Unfortunately I made the rookie mistake of not turning my iPhone sideways to film, so please excuse my skinny video. Oops! Oh and also excuse my wild hair. I have 3 kids and one is 3 months old, so I’m lucky it didn’t look even worse. Haha!
Hydro-Lok will be available in early March in over 2,000 Walmart stores nationwide. Visit Rainguard’s Facebook page, where you can enter a contest to win $500 by sharing a photo or video of how you creatively use Hydro-Lok. The most creative will win. I would use Hydro-Lok for my boots and then on some patio furniture as well! 🙂
I would use it on all my porch and deck cushions and pillows. Can’t wait to get some!!!!
I would love a sample of hydro-lok for my outdoor pottery barn furniture . It is white and I want to keep it that way after such an investment
I would love to try this on my porch chairs. I just reupholstered them.
I have an antique white wicker sofa that I had the cushions reupholstered a few years ago. The cushions unfortunately are in the garage most of the time instead of on the sofa where they belong because the sofa is out in the elements and gets rained on and the cushions are not waterproof and I certainly couldn’t ask my family member to be responsible and take them in if the weather gets bad if I am not at home to do it, soooo, they just stay in the garage most of the time. Unless we have company. If I used Hydro-Lock on them I could leave them out all summer and not worry!
Erni, Love your blog. Just came across your blog today.
this Hydro-Lok would be very popular in London where we all having lots of problems with condensation, mold etc.
Any idea if it’s available in UK?
It’s only available in the U.S. For now. Sorry!
Oh, wow, that’s awesome! I have some things I could totally use that for!
I would use it on my patio furniture that I will be purchasing this summer 🙂
I think I would try this on the pretty pillows on my couch, since they seem so prone to smeary little handprints my children insist they know nothing about.
Do you get this in a grocery store? Or a home/hardware store? How often do you need to reapply to fabric?
Hi Polly! If you go to the Rainguard website, there is a link that says “Where to buy” and you will find a list of stores that carry this product. You can reapply this at anytime for added performance. I will probably reapply mine yearly.
I know so many people who can benefit from this product. I would first use it on my patio furniture to make sure it works, and if it does, I would then spread the word about it. It sounds like an amazing product!
