We are feeling the heat down here in Georgia, and the kids are officially out for summer break. With all of that comes plenty of summer outdoor projects, but do you know what the worst part of that is? The bugs! Call me crazy, but personally I’m not a fan of them. We’ve had ant issues for years, despite regular pest control treatments, and same with mosquitoes. Before starting my latest outdoor project, I headed to the Home Depot to pick up some OFF!® products to get rid of pesky bugs and prevent bites while my family and I are in the yard, and I decided to grab some Raid® for indoor use too.
Here are the items I picked up:
- OFF!® Deep Woods
- Raid® Ant and Roach Killer Outdoor Scent
- Raid® Ant Baits (I’ll use these in the kitchen)
One of the projects I’m working on is prepping to plant a garden bed in front of the deck. I doused myself in Off!® Deep Woods because the mosquitoes are out in full force right now and I’ve already gotten a few bites. If I’m going to be spending hours in the yard, I definitely need to be protected. This stuff provides long lasting protection that won’t stain and is non-greasy, and protects against ticks, mosquitoes, biting flies, and fleas.
I decided since I was buying bug spray for outdoor use, I might as well go ahead and grab some to get rid of ants indoors too. We do occasionally have issues with them by our back door and by our dining room window. I used Raid® Ant & Roach spray to kill a few of them on contact. This spray eliminates roaches, ants, spiders, silverfish and more. Don’t even get me started on spiders. I can handle snakes, but spiders? HARD PASS.
While our main problem is ants, I do see the occasional roach (we live in the South so we have those huge extra nasty looking ones). Fun fact: my oldest son used to call them “goaches” and it stuck and that’s how we refer to them at our house. Makes me laugh every time.
It’s easy to forget about insect repellant when you’re planning an outdoor DIY project and gathering supplies, and there have been plenty of times when I got all set up to start my project and THEN realized it was a problem and I had to go back out to the store to pick up some bug spray. Same goes for having indoor bug spray on hand. I’m trying to work on being more proactive about it and just grabbing some whenever I pick up my project supplies so I will be good to go when I’m ready to start working.
I worked outdoors for quite a while and didn’t have any new bites when I came inside, and I haven’t seen any more ants in the house, but if I do I’ll be ready. The products definitely did their job. You can find both Raid® and OFF!® products at The Home Depot.

Good luck with Raid ant baits. They never work for me. Maybe I have tough ants.
