Update: Giant Mess, but Progress

August 5, 2012 By Erin Spain 6 Comments

Wow, I’ve been a busy lady this weekend! I did fully complete one project which I will share with you tomorrow, and I have several half-finished projects which I’ve been working on all weekend.
Here’s a little summary of what I’ve got going on at my house right now:

I stripped/sanded/cleaned/conditioned and stained my library card catalog cabinet. It just needs one more coat of polyurethane and it’ll be ready to be pieced back together and placed inside the house. Here’s a peek at what my garage looked like this weekend. This is only a fraction of the mess going on in there:

Pre-stain

See those zillions of drawers there? They’ve fallen like dominoes more than once. Two of them broke and I’ll have to repair them.

I also started removing the chipped paint from my boys’ Ikea table which has been peeling like crazy from being out in the heat and humidity. We were keeping it on our back screened porch (apparently a bad idea), but I have something fun planned for it.

Here’s a “before” pic, but you can’t tell that it’s chipping (trust me, it is.):

I also picked up a cheapo rug because I’ve been dying to stencil one. More on that tomorrow. I can’t wait to show you!

Did you work on any projects this weekend? I’d love to hear about them!

My husband and I are working on refinishing this old cabinet, but it’s been so hot here that we can only work for a little while before succumbing to heat exhaustion… this project will take us forever! 🙂

I know how you feel! It’s been extremely hot and this is quite a tedious project. It will be worth it in the end though! (I hope.)
