I was recently given the opportunity to try out Plaid’s new Martha Stewart glass paint, so I opted to make a Framed Family Sign using stencils and a silkscreen. I received all sorts of fun paints and tools from this new line, and I had so much fun playing around with it.
For this project, I simply used an inexpensive picture frame that I found at Walmart for around $5.00. Any frame will work, and for mine I simply removed the paper inside and left the cardboard backing. You could certainly add some pretty paper or fabric though.
Here are the supplies that I used:
The stencils are great because they have adhesive on the back so you can easily stick them to your glass surface and they won’t shift as you paint over them. They are easy to remove too.
First, I lined up my letters, trying my best to center them. I used the daubers to dot on the paint, and removed the stencils immediately. It’s important to remove them while the paint is still wet so they don’t peel your paint up as you remove them. The paint dries fast, so remove them as you go!
For the silkscreen at the bottom, I used the handled squeegee to apply the paint, and removed it quickly also. The stencils and silkscreens can be rinsed off with water when you’re finished.
This project was quick and easy, and I love the results. Stay tuned for lots more painted glass projects soon, because I am having a lot of fun playing around with these products!
