Our Trip to Asheville, NC

July 22, 2012 By Erin Spain 5 Comments

A few weeks ago, we spent several days traveling, first to Asheville, NC, and then to Charlotte to visit family and to celebrate the 4th of July. We had a great time, and it was a much needed getaway. If you’ve never been to Asheville, GO! It’s a beautiful city, and it’s especially fun for anyone who loves arts and crafts, as Asheville is well-known for that sort of thing. The River Arts District is especially awesome, with its industrial feel and access to lots of local artists and artisans. My husband and I usually go every year for our anniversary, but this time we took the kiddos with us for the first time. We only stayed for one night, so we mainly focused on wandering around downtown and eating good food. We didn’t visit the Biltmore House this time, but we’ve been before and I highly recommend it! It’s amazing.

I did discover a new awesome place to treasure hunt, thanks to Daune from Cottage in the Oaks who told me about the Antique Tobacco Barn. It was huge and there were treasures galore! It’s basically a huge warehouse full of antiques and vintage goodies. The prices were reasonable too. I saw lots of stuff I would’ve loved to take home, but luckily for our bank account, the car was too full to fit anything.

Here are a few snapshots from our trip. Can’t wait to go back again next year!

Here’s the outside of the Antique Tobacco Barn.

Patriotic Painted Dresser
This was one of my favorite pieces that I spotted inside. And perfect timing! It was the 4th of July, after all.

Antique Tobacco Barn
Here’s a little snippet of the inside. Imagine this on steroids times a billion. I couldn’t capture the enormity of the place through pictures so I stopped trying.
Early Girl Eatery
We ate brunch here, at the Early Girl Eatery. It’s one of our faves.

Boys Window Shopping
A little window shopping.
Cute boy walking
I don’t know what I’ve done with the color version of this photo, I could only find the black and white one. But it cracks me up! Jake saw a man walking down the sidewalk like this, with his hands behind his back. Jake started following him (from a distance) walking the same way and kept it up for quite some time. The man never noticed.

Have you ever been to Asheville? What’s your favorite thing about it? Leave a comment and let me know!
