Asheville {+ the Antique Tobacco Barn}

April 16, 2013 By Erin Spain 7 Comments

My husband and I were recently lucky enough to take a (kid-free!) trip to Asheville, NC. Don’t get me wrong, we love our kiddos, but sometimes it’s nice to get away and recharge our batteries.

One of my very places to visit in Asheville is the Antique Tobacco Barn, which I blogged about last year here. It’s a huge warehouse full of all sorts of vintage goodies, with tons of furniture as well as smaller items and tchotchkes. You can literally spend hours in there poring over everything and treasure hunting through rows of relics and “stuff.” I had my heart set on finding chairs for our master bedroom sitting area, but I sadly walked away empty-handed. That doesn’t mean there weren’t tons of things I wanted to bring home with me, just nothing I really “needed.”

Just to give you an idea of how huge this place is, here’s a shot of the inside which just shows a fraction of the space.

There were a bazillion chairs. Here are a few.

If they weren’t so pricey, I would’ve snatched up one of these cool antique dough bowls. I love the blue chairs stacked in the background too.

These vintage globes were cool, but cost a little more than I would have spent on one.

I was in love with this farmhouse style table and industrial copper chairs. Fortunately for our bank account, they wouldn’t fit in our car.

There were tons of salvaged windows and doors.

These painted chunky wooden letters were cool. They had metal ones too.

After visiting the Antique Tobacco Barn as well as several other antique shops nearby, we walked around downtown Asheville and visited some of our favorite local shops, galleries and restaurants.

Here I am at one of our favorite spots, Tupelo Honey Cafe.

We also love Mayfel’s, the Grove Arcade, Over Easy Cafe, Early Girl Eatery, all of the little boutiques downtown, and my husband loved Wicked Weed (downtown) and Wedge Brewing Company (River Arts District), just to name a few!

We had a great time and we can’t wait to go back again.

Where is your favorite “long weekend” getaway spot?

    So glad to know I’m not the only one who loves exploring places like this. I particularly like those dough rising bowls even though I don’t think I will ever be baking my own bread:)
