I’ve pretty much been dying to share this news with you for quite some time now, but now I can finally officially share that WE ARE MOVING!
If you follow me on Instagram, you probably figured it out when I posted this photo:
You guys.. this was such a crazy emotional rollercoaster of a process, but I’m happy that we officially have keys in hand and now I can shout it from the rooftops. We are so excited and we’re looking forward to many exciting projects as we make our new house into our (hopefully) “forever home.” We purchased a foreclosure home in one of our very favorite neighborhoods not far from where we live now. Since it was a foreclosure, the process was quite long and drawn-out. I can’t wait to share with you all I’ve learned about this entire foreclosure-buying process, as well as show you our new home and all of my plans for it.
Some of you may remember that we’ve been renting our current home for the past 2+ years. We still own our old townhome (aka our “starter home”) since we bought at the height of the market and then couldn’t sell without taking a major hit. We decided to rent it out until the market significantly improves to the point where we won’t lose a lot of money selling it. In the meantime, we opted to rent for a while as opposed to rushing into buying again. We didn’t want to juggle the responsibility of owning two homes with learning how to be first-time landlords. Ultimately, I’m really happy we chose to do that. We got the hang of managing a rental property while also scoping out surrounding areas and really narrowing the search for where we wanted to end up permanently. We also spent a lot of time determining exactly what qualities we wanted in a home and in a neighborhood, and what works and doesn’t work for our family. We loved our rental home and have been very happy there, but there was always a sense of living in limbo knowing it was a temporary situation. We’re very happy to once again have a home that is truly “ours.”
We determined that our first priority was location. We had an area of town that we really felt connected to and “at home” in, and it was at the top of our list for areas we wanted to live in. Unfortunately, many neighborhoods in that area are a little above our price range, so we had remained open-minded about possibly looking elsewhere. We had backup plans in place, and we weren’t really even planning on actively house hunting until the spring, but this foreclosure opportunity popped up and we felt that it was a perfect fit.
I’ll share more about the process, as well as more photos and a video tour of the new house later this week. But for now, let the adventure begin! We’ll be moving next weekend (yes, the same weekend as the Atlanta Bloggers meeting) so please bear with me as my posts may be sporadic for a little while. Stay tuned for lots of exciting changes!

CONGRATULATIONS! I’m so excited for you that I almost want to help you move. “Too bad” I live so far away. 😉 xoxo
LOL! Too funny. Thanks Cindy!
Best of Luck! I love colonials and lived in one for 26 years. I miss the great things about that style. Your house looks beautiful and reminds me of the neighborhood where I have family. Would be amazing if you are neighbors.
Thank you Myrna! We are excited. It’s a small world so you never know — do they live in the Atlanta suburbs?
Congrats! I can’t wait to read all about it!
Thanks Karen!
Congratulations Erin! It is a beautiful home! I know how you feel about living in limbo. We are renting an apartment right now, but longing to buy a home and hopefully it is our forever home. I am so happy for you guys and looking forward to seeing how you use your talent to decorate. Congratulations!
Thank you Laurie! There are definitely pros and cons to renting. Owning is definitely a lot of responsibility, so I will miss being able to call our landlord whenever something goes wrong. 🙂 But it’s nice to have a place of our own too. Hope you guys find your forever home soon!
Congratulations! I bet you will have so much fun with the new house!
Waiting for your new posts 😉
