We are prepping for a whirlwind boys’ bedroom transformation over here, and things are moving along. I mentioned the other day that we came away with quite a haul from IKEA. Just to bring you up to speed, we are turning our 2 year-old son’s “baby room” into a shared “big boy room” for both of my boys. We’re transitioning my youngest from his crib to a toddler bed, and my oldest (4 years old) from the toddler bed to a twin bed. We are also totally redecorating. (On a budget, of course.)
We are going with a navy/lime color scheme. Here is my inspiration for the furniture via The Yellow Caped Cod. I love the pop of color they created by painting the furniture a bright lime green, but glazing it to tone it down. I found this night stand on Craigslist which will be given the same (or a similar) treatment.
And this lamp was an $8 Goodwill find. It’s going to get a coat or two of navy spray paint and a snazzy new shade.
I also scored this mid-century modern chair at a thrift store, and it will be re-covered in order to serve as a replacement for their baby rocking chair. (My husband loves this new chair and is totally jealous.) I’ve decided not to do anything to permanently change it – I’ll just cover it with new fabric which can easily be changed later. It will be a sweet little spot in the corner where they can look at their books. And bonus, it takes up much less space than their plush rocker and ottoman. (P.S. Please ignore the hoarding situation happening in my garage.)
I found a dresser on Craigslist that my husband is planning on picking up this week, so I’m crossing my fingers that it works out! I love the chest of drawers that is currently in their room, but the drawers are really hard to open and the boys can’t reach all of them. It will be relocated to the guest room and replaced with a dresser that allows them to reach all of their clothes.
And just to refresh your memory, here’s a “Before” photo of the room:
I have lots of other “DIY” things I’m working on for this room, so stay tuned! This makeover will probably dominate the blog for a little while since I’ll be sharing my progress as I go along. I also have something really fun and exciting to share with you next week.
By the way, I just (finally) gave in and joined Instagram, so feel free to follow along over there as I post random photos and behind the scenes stuff.
Are you in the process of transforming any rooms in your home? Have you scored any great Craigslist finds lately? Do share!
