The dining room makeover has begun, with phase one (painted walls) complete! Since this makeover is not going to happen overnight, I thought I would just show it to you as we get things accomplished. As I’ve mentioned before, although it was hard to tell in photos, this room desperately needed to be painted. There were lots of holes and scuffs, etc., that needed to be patched, and it just needed to be freshened up. I’m going to share a few “After” photos, and then I’ll throw in a “Before” pic at the end.
First, I just want to say a huge thank you to Benjamin Moore who provided the paint for this project. I used their Aura paint in a Matte finish, and the color is Revere Pewter. I love it! It’s the perfect shade of soft gray. And I can’t say enough good things about it in general. It is self-priming, so it only took one coat, plus I didn’t notice any stinky paint fumes at all. Self-priming is a must for me nowadays. Because of this, I was able to paint this room during naptime, and I had time to spare! I think I’m going to carry this color through to the living room/office and paint the walls in there too.
I love how this bronze mirror casts a pretty glow on the walls toward evening and at night. The paint color changes hue with different lighting and at different times of the day, and it really is a great neutral without being boring. Oh, and for more info on my refinished buffet table (a flea market find), check out that post here.
We still need curtains, wall art and a rug to really finish the room off, but the walls are a good start!
And just to refresh your memory, here it was before:
It was kind of a yellowy-tan color. It looks better in the picture than it did in person, trust me.
Stay tuned for more updates!
Ok, opinions: Should I stick with this color (Revere Pewter) for our living room/office? Please leave a comment and let me know what you think!

Thank you Heather!
I am dying over the color!!! Just gorgeous! Grey is the new black???

LOVE the color Erin – I might have to paint our great room this color! It’s gorgeous!
Thank you!
It’s beautiful! I love the color.
Thank you, Karen!
I love it!! It looks amazing! I think that’s a great idea to carry it over into the next room too! If it’s a good thing, why not keep it going!? It will feel totally different too with the other accessories for that room…to still feel u our and new.
Thanks Erica! I think I’m going to go for it and paint the other room. My goal is to finish that this weekend!
It is one of my favorite colors to use…BUT it can go very light so I would say it depends on the amount of light the room gets and the mood you ar eloping for….good luck
sorry my last comment auto corrected.
It should say “depends what mood you are looking for”
Yes, it is pretty light but that works out well for our living room/office since that room doesn’t get a lot of natural light. Good point though! Thanks!
Looks positively yummy! They color changes the entire vibe of the room!
Thank you Shannon!
Love the paint color!! Beautiful room and furniture!! Could I ask one question? Isn’t the chandelier suppose to be hung between 30 to 34 inches above the table? Just wondering about that.
Yes, it should be lower, but we actually didn’t hang it. It was there when we moved in and we are renting so probably won’t mess with it for now. Thanks!
I’m in the midst of a dining room makeover, too, Erin and it’s amazing what difference a coat of paint makes! Looking forward to following your progress!
Heidi 🙂
Thank you Heidi!

Enjoying reading through your past blog projects 🙂
Thanks so much Christina!
Great selection of color for the furniture. I love how the sun lights the room up. Pretty cool stuff, Erin!
Thank you!
The appearance of the dining room is important as you invite guests to dine with you during special occasions. The space and the decorations need to be just right in order for people to feel more comfortable as they dine with family or friends. I am looking forward for more updates regarding your makeover project. God bless.
I do love the new color choice. This does not only help reflect light making the room brighter, but it also has a very refreshing look. This is also a good color which goes with almost any other colored decoration. Thank you for sharing this post. I know that several homeowners will be inspired by this. Great job!
