I love the idea of handmade gifts, so I thought it would be fun to add yet another personal touch by making DIY holiday gift tags — especially since these can be made very quickly and easily. I made glittery and gold ones, but you could use any color or pattern you choose.
Here’s what I used for this project:
- Tag Punch
- Glitter Paper/Cardstock (Scrapbook paper works great too)
- Mini Hole Punch
- Bakers Twine and/or Jute Twine
- Alphabet Stamps (Optional)
- Gold Ink Pad (Optional)
These are so easy to make! I’ve seen all of those cute paper punches at the craft store, but I never actually bought one until now.
They can be pricey – this one was regularly priced at $17.99, but it was 40% off at Jo-Ann’s. If they aren’t on sale, be sure to use a coupon! All of the craft stores (like Hobby Lobby, Jo-Ann Fabrics and Michaels) have apps for your smartphone and also online coupons at all times. Never buy anything full price at any of those stores! Always use a 40% off coupon. Ok, now back to the project…
This is very simple. You just slide your pretty paper (whatever color or pattern you choose) into the tag punch. It’s best to use it upside down so you can see exactly what you are punching. I thought this gold chevron glitter paper was fun.
Use a mini hole punch to punch a hole at the top to thread ribbon or twine through.
You can use alphabet stamps to stamp names on the tags, or just use a sharpie pen or pretty marker. I opted to stamp names on mine with gold ink.
Seriously, these don’t get any easier!
I will probably make lots of different patterned tags. I love the gold though!
Will you be making your own gift tags? Or are you more of a peel-and-stick person? (Nothing wrong with that of course! I am sometimes too.)

LOVE the super easy ones! And that chevron paper is spectacular! Where did you get it?? I have stenciled and cut tags by hand before, but I think I need to do a mini-splurge and get a nice tag punch. Thanks for all your Christmasy posts these days–helping to get me in the mood!

I need to get over to Jo-Ann’s! Been there every week this past month or so and never looked at wrapping paper! Thanks!

I actually found this paper over by the scrapbook paper, near the paper punches! They had lots of cute papers to choose from.

Love these simple tags!

are the stamps in your link the ones that you actually used to make these tags?

Hi Katie! No, they aren’t, but they are the closest I could find online. I got mine in the Target dollar bin. I also have some in another font that I purchased at Jo-Ann’s.
