I recently saw some cute paper feather gift tags at Target, and I thought it was such a cute idea. (We all know I love feathers anyway.) I decided I could make my own, but I opted to create paper feather ornaments instead. (They could double as gift tags too.)
What you’ll need for this project:
- Sizzix Big Shot Machine & Feather Die Cut (Or you can cut the feathers by hand using a paper template, but the Sizzix makes it super quick and easy.)
- Mini Hole Punch
- Monofilament
- Alphabet stamps and Gold Ink Pad (optional)
- Metallic gold marker (optional)
- White Cardstock
If you’re using a Sizzix to cut the feathers, simply sandwich your card stock and die cut between two cutting mats and crank them through the machine. (You can check out my tutorial here.)
Here is what the Sizzix looks like:
First, cut out your feathers using whichever method you choose.
After you have all of your feathers cut, use a mini hole punch to punch a hole toward the top of the feather.
Decorate each feather however you choose. I used a metallic Sharpie to color different designs on mine, and for some I chose to stamp little words on them like “Joy,” “Ho Ho Ho” and “Noel.”
Tie a loop of monofilament/fishing line through the hole so you can hang your ornament.
That’s it! Super easy. Stay tuned next week — I’ll be sharing my Christmas home tour along with several other bloggers! Just don’t set your expectations super high since I did just have a baby. 🙂
If you like these ornaments, you might also like some of the ornaments I made last year:

Are you doing any Christmas crafting this year?
