Usually, I’m not a big Valentine’s Day crafter. I thought I would throw together something small and fun this year though, foregoing the typical pink and red theme and going for something a little more my style. These DIY Valentine magnets would make a fun gift for a teacher, grandparent, neighbor, friend, you name it. Design it with your own custom message or drawing, package it together with some yummy candy of course, and you’ve got the perfect gift.
Here’s what you need for this project:
- Small Wood Rectangles (You can find these at the craft store.)
- Stain of your choice (I used Minwax Special Walnut Stain)
- Staining Cloths
- Gold Leaf Pen
- Adhesive Magnets
First, stain your wooden rectangles and let them thoroughly dry.
When your wood rectangles are dry, use the gold leaf pen to draw any design you like. I drew hearts and wrote “Love” on some of them.
Attach the adhesive magnets to the back (or hot glue some on).
Simple! That’s all there is to it. These are quick and easy to make. If you want more contrast you could always use acrylic paint instead of the gold leaf pen, or paint the magnets instead of staining them. So many options!
And just because everything looks cuter when being held by a boy wearing Spider Man jammies…
And because if one boy gets to hold a magnet then it’s only fair that the other gets to hold some too.
Will you be making any handmade gifts for Valentine’s Day?
