When we moved into our new home, I was excited about the fact that the entire house has wood floors. But to be honest, that excitement quickly turned into, “How on earth am I going to keep these floors clean?” I really like the fact that we have dark wood floors, but I knew that with kids (and crumbs) and a dog, every little fuzzball and piece of dirt and dust would show. But then, I was given the opportunity to try the Swiffer Sweep & Trap, and it was the perfect solution.
This product is new at Target and cleans it all, big and small. It uses rotating blades to pick up large particles (like bits of cereal, large crumbs, miscellaneous snack remnants, etc.) and flicks them into a dirt bin while the attached Swiffer Sweeper dry cloth traps dirt, dust and hair. This combo cleans up big and small messes at the same time, making it much easier to embrace life’s little messes. (And boy, do we have plenty of those at our house!)
The Swiffer Sweep & Trap is only intended for dry pickup on hard floor surfaces. I still mop the floors plenty, but this definitely does the trick for those “in-between mopping” cleanings. It’s a lot quicker and easier than a broom. I just swipe it over the floor and I’m done — no getting down on my hands and knees with a dust pan.
Here you can see a before and after of our entryway. Please don’t judge — this is not a dramatization. Our floor really was that dirty!
And here is the Swiffer Sweep & Trap full of dust and debris. Look at all the dust bunnies it picked up!
Some added benefits are:
- It uses the same dry cloths as the Swiffer Sweeper
- It’s lightweight and compact with an ergonomic handle
- The rotating blades and dirt bin are easily removed for cleaning and easy to reattach too
- No batteries or power required, so it’s just as easy as a broom but cleans better
- Rotating blades are soft so they won’t scratch your floors

Which of life’s little messes do you find hardest to embrace?

That’s what I’ve heard about dark wood–that it’s crazy hard to keep clean! But so pretty! Glad the swiffer’s helping you keep up with it:)
Thanks Gretchen! Yes, the dark wood is a challenge.
We have all dark hardwoods too and with a toddler there are always crumbs everywhere! I really need to get one of these- much better than sweeping every night!
Yes, this helps with the crumb situation. Although since we have a dog she usually takes care of the crumbs for us. 🙂
What a difference! We’re moving soon, and I’m going to need one of these!
Thanks Angela! It comes in handy!
I’ve been wanting to try this! My girls always leave a mess under the kitchen table. Thanks for the coupon!
Thanks Steph! It’s been coming in handy for us.
Okay I seriously need this! I have someone clean my floors every couple of weeks but this would be perfect for all of the other days.
Yes this is definitely good for the in-between cleaning!
Awesome. Dark floors, messy husband plus fat Bassett Hound = lots of sweeping. I think we might need one of these!
LOL love the fat bassett hound. One of these definitely might come in handy for you!
I don’t have hardwood, but lots of tile. I need to get one of these to try. Thanks for the recommendation.
With a new baby and 2 dogs, my Swiffer gets a daily work out! We have the wet one as well as the dry swiffer pad and love both of them.
I’ve been a swiffer fan for ever but after I moved to a place with all hardwoods and 2 cats – I invested in a roomba. I’m telling you – it’ll change your life! 🙂 it goes under furniture on a regular basis and gets the dust that migrates there.
And don’t be discouraged about keeping the floor clean – the same dirt etc would be there if you had carpet and this way you know exactly when it is gone!
And I use my swiffer with wet cloths still.
Thanks for the info! Might have to invest in one at some point. For now this Swiffer is doing a good job of getting the gritty piles of dirt up. So true about the dirt! It does make me feel better knowing when it’s clean. 🙂
