I am thrilled to be participating in this year’s FrogTape® Paintover Challenge™ which has finally motivated me to make over our guest bedroom! I can’t wait to show you the reveal in a few weeks. In the meantime, here are my plans and everything you need to know about this fun challenge.
Disclosure: This post is sponsored by FrogTape®. All opinions are my own.
For the FrogTape® Paintover Challenge™, 5 bloggers (including me!) will go head to head and make over a space in each of our homes, and then you will have the opportunity to vote for your favorite space. The winner of the challenge will be awarded $10,000 to the charity of their choice. If I win, the prize will go to Dwell with Dignity, which is a nonprofit organization that makes over homes for families transitioning out of homelessness. I’ve volunteered with them in the past and I just love the work that they do.
As for the project for this challenge, I’m making over our guest bedroom which has sadly not been touched since we moved into our home 5 years ago. Each of the participating bloggers were assigned a different theme, so we are decorating within those parameters. My theme is “feminine and free,” so my goal is to make this space feminine without being too girly. I do live in a house full of boys, after all. But that makes this theme even more fun for me since I don’t get to go “feminine” too often in our decor. We were also sent a bucket of supplies and given a $1000 budget for decorating the space.
Are you ready to see some “before” pics? It’s embarrassing to even show you but I know that the “after” photos you’ll see in a few weeks will look dramatically different. We literally just plopped stuff in this room when we moved in and never touched it again. Ok, let’s all agree: No judging! Ha. Ok here is the room BEFORE.
So much beige! Oh man, are you ready for this one? Chris apparently turned into a box hoarder since he occasionally sells stuff on eBay, and his collection got out of control.
We also use our playroom as a second guest room, so we try not to allow guests to see this space too often because let’s face it, it’s mortifying. Chris has used this room as his office since we moved in but we are in the process of transitioning his office to the sunroom. I do plan on incorporating a desk area into the space though. Here is a mood board depicting a general idea of the room design I’m going for. I was assigned an assortment of soft colors to choose from and one of them was powder blue, which I love. So I will be bringing that color into the space along with some neutrals like white, cream, and gold/bronze.
I plan on using a roll of FrogTape® to create a unique design on a piece of furniture I’m building for the space, so stay tuned for that! I am so excited about it. I will also use it to tape around the window and baseboards. I usually “cut in” around the ceiling and baseboards since I’ve been painting for so long, but I am a messy painter and notoriously sloppy around window frames, so I will definitely tape around those. And if you aren’t a pro painter, I suggest taping around all edges including the floor/baseboards and ceiling. FrogTape® allows you to get super sharp paint lines, creating a much more professional look.
I will be sharing my progress soon, so stay tuned!
