I love a good crafty DIY challenge, so when I was given the opportunity to create something with FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® products, I didn’t hesitate! I was sent a box of fun goodies to craft with, including FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Balls, Foam Tools, and Foam Cutter. I opted to make a DIY Moss Topiary, and today I’ll show you exactly how I did it.
What you’ll need for this project:
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Balls – (1) – 6 inch and (1) – 5 inch size
- FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Tools
- 6 inch Terra Cotta Pot
- Chalky Finish Paint (or acrylic paint, if you prefer)
- Paint Brushes or Foam Brushes
- Hot Glue Gun
- Spanish Moss (can be purchased at craft store)
- 2 Floral Sticks
- Jute Twine
- A large sheet of craft paper or a drop cloth (This project is messy! A disposable drop cloth or sheet of craft paper makes for easy cleanup.)
Here are most of my supplies, although I did not end up using everything pictured:
First, paint your terra cotta pot the color of your choice. I used a light gray chalky finish paint. Set it aside to dry.
Lay out your craft paper or drop cloth on your work surface (I opted for the floor), and use your glue gun to attach the moss to your foam balls.
Use the “Tuck and Scribe” FloraCraft® Make It: Fun® Foam Tool to help press the moss down to ensure that you don’t burn your fingers! The hot glue will peel off the tool if you get some on it.
Work in small sections and dot your glue then press the moss until the entire ball is covered.
Place your larger ball into the terra cotta pot. Poke two floral sticks about 1 1/2 to 2 inches deep into the larger foam ball.
Then, wrap the exposed part of the sticks with jute twine. Tie or glue the end of the twine, then wind it around until you reach the top, and dot a little bit of hot glue to hold it in place.
Stick your smaller foam ball on top of the floral sticks, leaving a gap of 3-4 inches between the two foam balls. That’s it! Easy peasy.

This is such a cute idea! I love the look the twine as the “bark” makes it look. From far away, you can’t tell it’s not real topiary, but up close all the hard work you put into it shines through and it looks like a brand new piece. Thanks so much for sharing!
