Sprucing Up Outdoors & HomeRight Finish Max Giveaway!

May 22, 2015 By Erin Spain 68 Comments

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by HomeRight, but all opinions are my own.

Tackle your outdoor paint & stain projects with a HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer! Enter to win one via DIY on the Cheap.

I am very excited to announce a new partnership here on the blog! I am now a brand ambassador for HomeRight, so each month you can expect to find a project here as I try out their products and show you the results. And as a bonus, you’ll have a chance to win each of the products as I host a giveaway each month! (Stay tuned at the end of this post for a chance to win a Finish Max paint sprayer!)

Our outdoor rocking chairs have been looking worse for wear lately, with paint chipping and nasty mildew/fungus growing on them.

Yuck! I decided to tackle one of them (I’ll be doing the other very soon, but wanted to get a feel for the paint sprayer first) with the HomeRight Finish Max.

First, I found a cute boy to help me wash the chair. We hosed it down, gave it a good scrubbing, and then a light sanding.

I used an exterior white semi-gloss latex paint with primer, and I made sure to thin the paint according to the Finish Max instructions. I set up shop on a drop cloth in the middle of the yard away from the house, deck or any structure that I didn’t want to risk staining with overspray.

Then, I sprayed it with even strokes while holding the sprayer about 4-10 inches away from the chair.

(Note: Ignore the awesome outfit aka mismatched jammies, the grass that needs mowed, the weeds in the garden, the ivy that needs yanked out, and so on and so on. You get the picture, we have a long to do list!) Oh, and I need to give a shout-out to my 4 year-old photography assistant.

The Finish Max was super easy to use, and fast too! I finished painting the whole chair in about 5 minutes, and now I’m thinking, “Where have you been all my life?,” because I’ve definitely never finished a painting project that quickly before.

I followed the instructions for cleaning the sprayer afterwards, and surprisingly it really wasn’t hard. I always dread the “cleanup” portion of each project, and I was afraid it would be hard to get this sprayer clean but it actually wasn’t.

Here’s the rocking chair now. Much better!
