If you were a child of the 80s (like me), then there was probably a time in your life when brass became synonymous with tacky. That is definitely no longer the case. Brass is back in a big way, but not the shiny yellow brass of the 80s and 90s. It’s as if that brass grew up and aged gracefully, and is now making a comeback as a more mature, refined version of itself. Think deeper golden hues with more patina and less shine. The new brass is classic rather than trendy.
There are so many fabulous brass accents on the market right now, and a variety of ways you can incorporate them into your decor. Oh, and all those people who told you that you can’t mix metals? They lied. No need to toss out your silver decor in order to make room for the gold. They can play nice — really! Regardless of your budget, there are simple ways to bring a touch of brass into your space.
Here are 5 items I love, plus 5 examples of ways you can incorporate brass into your decor.
1. Home Decorators Collection / 2. Target / 3. The Home Depot / 4. Pottery Barn Kids / 5. Anthropologie
1. Hang a Sunburst Mirror
A glam sunburst mirror adds sophistication to any space. Whether the room is casual or formal, this timeless mirror shape works well. (And I’m not just saying that because I happen to own 2 of these Sole Mirrors from Home Decorators Collection! They are located in our entryway and nursery.)
2. Add a Brass Side Table
Whether situated beside a cozy chair or used as a nightstand, a stylish little gold table is modern and versatile. (You might have recognized this one from our nursery.)
3. Install a Brass Faucet
Stainless steel and brushed nickel are not the only options when it comes to kitchen and bathroom fixtures. Adding a beautiful brass faucet is a small change that can make a big impact.
4. Hang a Pendant Light
Oil-rubbed bronze had it’s heyday, and now it’s the perfect time for brass to have its moment. A dramatic, geometric-shaped pendant light in a gold finish adds a wow factor to an entryway or dining space. (P.S. Stay tuned for a bit of brass happening in our dining room very soon. If you follow me on Instagram you probably saw that the room is currently in shambles! Not for long though.)
5. Switch out Knobs and Drawer Pulls
A quick and easy way to add brass to your decor is to swap out your old knobs and furniture pulls with brass ones. A touch of brass combined with shimmery quartz is a fun way to get a whole new look in a matter of minutes.
