Do you ever wish you could have the peace of mind of knowing that you can monitor and control your home when you’re away? I recently had the opportunity to try out PEQ Smart Home Service, which allows you to have mobile access to monitor and control your home, including everything from doors, lamps, thermostats, windows, and more. You can use your mobile device to see who is coming and going and when doors open and close at your home. It provides reassurance that everything at your home is as it should be. It allows consumers to view, control and receive alerts from their home anywhere, whether at work, across town, or on vacation, by using an app on your smartphone, tablet or laptop.
I received the following PEQ products:
How does it work?
First, you select which devices you want to monitor and control. (Doors, thermostat, windows, etc.) Then, you sign up for PEQ’s monthly service for $9.99/month. Next, you install the devices on your own or with help from PEQ. I found this to be very easy to do from my phone — I simply downloaded the app and followed the installation instructions. It walked me through every step. Last, you set up the “rules” (or alerts) that best suit your needs.
For $9.99 per month, PEQ service includes:
- Ability to connect an unlimited number of devices to the PEQ service
- Access to the best user interface in the smart home industry
- Live, professional customer care and tech support seven days per week
- A device ecosystem that has been certified and guaranteed to work with the PEQ service
- Extensive storage of video and pictures
- Live, streaming video to your laptop, smartphone or tablet
- Regular updates to the user interface and apps to add new features and functionality, essentially future proofing your investment
You can’t put a price on peace of mind, but this is definitely a great value. I love the fact that we can travel and not have to worry about the safety of our home while we’re away. You can monitor your home on your own terms, and you can add as many devices as you’d like. There is no technical knowledge required in order to set it up.
With another baby on the way, I also love the fact that I can set up a camera to monitor the nursery if I want to.
For now, I tested out the camera in the boys’ room. It was nice to be able to monitor them from other parts of the house and see whether they were behaving or not. 🙂
I could also see that they were busy making a mess of their bedroom! Here’s a screenshot from my phone.
I really love the lamp device too. The lamp simply plugs into it and you can control it from your mobile device.
I was able to check from my phone to see if we left the bedroom lamp on, and I could shut it off. Sometimes if my son has an evening t-ball game, we forget to leave lights on and come home to a dark house. This device allows me to turn on lamps before we arrive home, so we no longer have to come home to darkness.
I placed a motion detector in our downstairs family room, aiming it at the back doors.
The water device notifies you if there is a leak in your home. You can place it on the bathroom floor, under a sink, near a sump pump or by an appliance like your washer, dishwasher, or in an air conditioner condensation drip pan. I placed ours under our bathroom sink in case it happens to start leaking.
You can set “rules” to be notified whenever motion is detected.
Here’s a screenshot of the dashboard from my laptop:
I found the PEQ service to be user friendly, and there are plenty of resources available to help you set it up and get everything running. It’s convenient and definitely helps me feel more “in control” of every aspect of my home. PEQ is available for purchase online at mypeq.com and various Best Buy locations across the US.
