My welding table is small and portable, and oftentimes the bolts come loose. It’s frustrating and annoying and I can never seem to tighten them enough to prevent this from happening. Luckily I think I found the solution.

When my friends over at Home Depot sent me this RIDGID Impact Wrench, I was excited to try it out, and I knew my welding table would be the perfect guinea pig to use. I’ve never used an impact wrench before, so this was totally new to me, and I was instantly amazed by the power behind this tool.
Problem solved!
Let’s talk details. This is the RIDGID 18-Volt OCTANE cordless brushless 1/2 inch impact wrench. It has 485 ft.-lbs. of fastening torque and 620 ft.-lbs of breakaway torque. Auto mode shuts it off when the tool impacts to prevent overtightening, which is a great feature to have because this thing tightens quickly. I don’t think my bolts are going to come loose again anytime soon.
I just bought a second welding table since this one is so small and I really need more surface area, so I can push them together whenever I need a larger work surface. I’ll definitely be using this impact wrench when I put the second table together and hopefully the loose bolt situation won’t be a problem with that one. Eventually I will invest in a larger, better quality welding table but for now I really just don’t have the space for it.
If you’re interested in learning about welding, you can check out this post where I detailed my experience with learning how. I have a few fun welding projects coming up so it was imperative that I get this table situation fixed ASAP. Now that the weather is finally cooling down in Georgia, I hope to squeeze in as much welding as I can before it gets too cold outside. I tried welding in the summertime and it was just brutally hot! I need an air conditioned metalworking shop, but for now I have to make do with the space I have.
What kinds of things would you like to see me try to weld? Let me know in the comments!
