I’ve been thinking about building a bench for the foot of our bed, and it got me thinking about how a bench is the perfect starter DIY project if you’re just getting into building or making over furniture. They are fun and relatively easy to build, and there are so many different ways you can customize them to complement your decor. If you’ve ever considered building furniture, a bench is a great place to start, so I thought I would round up a collection of DIY bench ideas to inspire you!
7 DIY BENCH IDEAS
You may recall this bench that I built for our entryway when I was 8 months pregnant and majorly nesting. It’s a simple build and could also work as a dining table bench.
This bench by Designs by Studio C was built using an old headboard. I love the color she chose!
This pretty shoe bench by Crafting in the Rain is another great entryway idea.
Jen Woodhouse from The House of Wood can do no wrong when it comes to building. She is a furniture making machine! I absolutely love this DIY storage bench she built.

I love a good furniture makeover. This skinny coffee table turned bench by Dena at Hearts & Sharts is an awesome transformation. You have to hop over there and see the “before.”
Are you feeling inspired? I know I am! Right now we have these cane barrel chairs at the foot of our bed but I’m thinking maybe a DIY bench is in order. And as for our master bedroom, I’m considering finishing it up as part of the One Room Challenge since I finally have all of my ducks in a row and am ready to cross this room off my list. I definitely want to participate in the series so I’m just debating whether I’ll finish the bedroom before then and make over a different room for the challenge, or wait and do the bedroom. Decisions, decisions!
