Since I’ve been knee deep in a bedroom makeover for the One Room Challenge (details here), I’ve had headboards on the brain. While I didn’t opt to DIY our master bedroom headboard (read about that decision here), I do think that in many situations a DIY headboard is the way to go.
It’s a great way to save money (depending on what type you want to make), and the possibilities are endless when it comes to customization. I thought I would round up several DIY headboard ideas to get your creative juices flowing and hopefully inspire you.
I did build my two older boys’ headboards a few years ago, and I shared a full tutorial here. They are still one of my favorite things about their bedroom, and I love that they have something special in their room that I made just for them. (I do need to make a larger one for Jake now that he’s out of the toddler bed though! It’s been on my list for ages.) You can see more of their bedroom here.

All of these ideas are so unique and different. I love the fact that with a little bit of time and effort, you can create your own headboard and end up with something totally unique and unlike anything anyone else has.
