Monogrammed Glass Ornament {Filled with Sheet Music}

December 21, 2012 By Erin Spain 9 Comments

Loving these DIY monogrammed glass ornaments! These would make the perfect gift, and they're easy to make too!

Are you looking for a fun, thoughtful gift idea for a loved one? Or maybe you just want to make a keepsake for your family’s Christmas tree. Today I am sharing my Monogrammed Glass Ornament {Filled with Sheet Music.} This is a great gift idea, and the good news is, it’s easy to make!

What you’ll need:

  • Glass ornament
  • Glass paint or Multi-Surface Craft Paint
  • Paint Dauber
  • Adhesive Alphabet Stencils
  • Sheet Music (I downloaded and printed mine from the Graphics Fairy, but you could also buy some at a thrift store.)
  • Thread or thin ribbon. (I used gold.)
  • Rubbing alcohol

First, cut up your sheet music into long strips, and loosely curl them up. Open up your ornament and place the scrolled up sheet music strips inside.

Clean your ornament with rubbing alcohol to make sure there isn’t any residue or anything that will keep the stencil from sticking or paint from adhering properly.

Place your stencil onto the front of your ornament. I used a monogram letter and also two little leaf stencils on each side. These are Martha Stewart glass stencils and can be found at Michaels. I love them because they are adhesive so they stay in place, and you can use them over and over again. (Tip: While I painted mine, I made a makeshift ornament stand out of a small ring cut from a paper towel holder. It held the ornament in place for me so it didn’t roll around.)

Create a monogrammed ornament with glass paint.

Dab the paint on with the paint dauber, and remove the stencils quickly while the paint is still wet. Stick the top back on your ornament, and tie some pretty ribbon to create a loop.

Give it as a gift, or keep it for yourself!
