DIY Bench with Hairpin Legs

February 20, 2023 By Erin Spain Leave a Comment

When I first moved into my house two years ago, I built a cute little bench for the end of my bed (you can see it here). Well, my now 8 year-old promptly did a front flip off the bed and broke it. Rather than repair the old one, I decided I wanted a different style entirely so finally got around to building a new one. I’m teaming up with Kreg to share build plans and a tutorial for my new DIY bench with hairpin legs. (Much sturdier and harder to break!)

This DIY bench with hairpin legs is a simple build (you know I love those) and can be easily modified to whatever length or width you choose. This one is 3’3″ long x 10 1/2″ wide.

I used my Kreg Jig 520PRO for this project. It’s my fave because it’s lightweight, easy to use, and super portable.

I ordered hairpin legs off Amazon –– these are 16″ high but you can order custom height legs so if you want your bench to be taller then keep that in mind. I ordered black and then primed them with rusty metal spray primer and spray painted them metallic gold.

I used a special walnut stain for the benchtop, but again you could customize the finish however you’d like.
