I am so excited to finally share this DIY Boho living room and home office makeover with you! This was my main quarantine project, and I took my time with it. (This post is going to be photo heavy.) You can check out my YouTube video for the entire room makeover process, and I will link to DIY tutorials and product sources below.
CREATING A MOOD BOARD
The first thing I typically do whenever I am designing a room is create a mood board, and that’s what I did for this space. I usually use PhotoShop (but you could always just create a Pinterest board or even create a physical mood board with magazine clippings, fabric swatches, etc.), and I use it just to get a general feel for the the style of the room and what direction I’m headed with it. I don’t always end up using all of the exact items I include in my mood board, but I can at least get a visual of what I like, and in this case I used almost all of these items.

DIY BOHO LIVING ROOM AND HOME OFFICE MAKEOVER
This room had become a catch-all for junk and we stopped using it for anything else a long time ago. It was my “mom cave” and office for a while but over time it evolved into a glorified storage room. Here are the sad before pics. (No judging!)
First, I painted the walls a crisp white so I could have a blank canvas to work with and a neutral backdrop. I used Behr Marquee in the color White 52.
I built a DIY plywood coffee table for the space and you can find the blog post here and the YouTube video here.
I also built some hanging rope wall shelves. (Blog post here. YouTube video here.)
Faux Leather Chairs / Rug / Throw Blanket / Gold Frame / Throw Pillows
I brought in some new chairs, plants, pillows, and a rug I had previously purchased for the playroom. Aside from that, I pulled from other areas of the house and tried to work with what I had on hand.
I did create some large scale abstract art with a custom frame. You can find that blog post here and YouTube video here.
Lamp / Black and White Throw Pillow / Faux Leather Pillow Covers / Pillow Inserts
I get a lot of questions about my card catalog. You can find that back story here.
I made some simple DIY hexagon shelves for above my desk. (Blog post here and YouTube video here.)
I found an old filing cabinet for $10 on Facebook marketplace and gave it a quick and easy makeover. You can see exactly how I did it in my YouTube video for this room makeover.
This room has been such a serene place for me to hang out and I’m so happy to finally have it done! Be sure to check out the YouTube video:
