This time of year I always feel inspired to dust off my craft supplies and start creating. This project is so easy it doesn’t even warrant a tutorial, but I wanted to share this idea with you for DIY feather Thanksgiving place cards. (They could actually work for any occasion, not just Thanksgiving.) I used my Sizzix machine to cut these feathers (with this feather die cartridge), but you could easily just print out a feather template and cut each one by hand. Just search Google for some free feather graphics and print them out to create your template, then trace the shape onto the back of your card stock and cut it out. Leaves would work really well for this too! The Sizzix is just a fun machine and a major time saver. I used this technique (same as with Jonah’s crib mobile) to cut the feathers, and I used gold glitter card stock. Then, I just used a thin Sharpie to write the names. Of course you could get fancy with some calligraphy if you have the skills, but I don’t.
It’s super easy, but it adds a little personalization to your Thanksgiving table. The simplest projects are often the most fun — besides, it’s all in the details, isn’t it?
You could lay these flat on top of each place setting, or above the plate, or even clip it to a little stand (like this) which would show off the sparkly side on the back. It took me less than 5 minutes to make these. I love a quick craft project!
Are you hosting Thanksgiving this year? Are you making any handmade decor for the occasion? Leave me a comment and let me know what you’re working on!
