Every month, some blogger friends and I team up to bring you the “Thrifty Style Series,” where we style a thrifted/free/inexpensive/hand-me down (you get the drift) item in our homes with the hopes that you will be inspired to see second-hand finds in a whole new light. This month, I’m sharing an oldie but a goodie. It’s something I’ve shared before, briefly, but it was a few years ago and it was in our old house, so I’m sure none of you remember it! It’s a special item so I’m more than happy to share it again, but styled in our current home. It’s a family heirloom given to me by my grandma: a vintage box.
Aside from cleaning it up with some Murphy’s Oil Soap, I haven’t done anything to it. This vintage box used to be full of antique toy cars that belonged to my dad and his brother when they were kids. There are still a few left in the box. (I’m pretty sure she put most of them somewhere else for safekeeping.) I decided to prominently display this box on the built-in bookshelves in our family room. So you’re getting sneak peek of our family room makeover which I will be sharing in the next week or so!
Be sure to hop over to visit the rest of the Thrifty Style Team and see what goodies they are sharing this month.

When ever someone mentions they have something special from their grandmother I get all teary eyed. Why? Because we all know our kids will remember us, but it is so much more when we’re special to our grand-kids too.

Oh I have such a love affair with old wooden boxes! They always seem to have a spirit of history and treasure and this one from your grandmother is just beautiful. Love it!
