I’m slowly but surely making progress in the family room, and I can’t wait to show you everything very soon! In case you missed the design plan for the room, here it is.
For now, let’s talk paint. I finally painted the walls in the room, along with the kitchen since they share one long wall. I opted to go with Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl (same color as our bedroom), as I really wanted something light and airy. Of course, to get the job done I had to bust out my all-time favorite set of paintbrushes from Zibra. (Stay tuned for a giveaway at the end of this post!)
These are the two brushes I used.
For this room, I opted for the angle brush to cut in along the ceiling and baseboards.
I used the triangle brush for the corners, and I rolled the rest of the wall.
These brushes are seriously game changers. I’ve used a lot of different paintbrushes over the years. I’ve chosen to partner with Zibra because they truly are my very favorite brushes. They are high quality, each of them are designed with a specific purpose in mind, and they hold paint amazingly well.
For more info on all of the specialty brushes that Zibra offers, be sure to visit them online and connect with them on YouTube and Facebook.
As for the rest of the family room, we found a Mid-Century credenza on Craigslist which will serve as our TV stand. Here’s a peek at the painted walls too. They’re a very light gray, and for now this is about all I can show you since the rest of the room is still a hot mess! More progress coming soon though. (Also, excuse the photo quality as I had to shoot this with a long exposure in a nearly pitch-black room on a rainy day.)
I’m working on the fireplace right now, and then I can bring the new rug into the space. It’s all coming together!

I’d love to give some of these a try. I have a room full of beadboard to paint, and spraying isn’t a great option for various reasons.

It looks like by your mood board that your family room is going to be beautiful. I especially like the intricate, wood coffee table and the use of blue. It’s my favorite color! I checked out the paintbrushes and I really like the 2 inch angled brush and if I had one, it would really come in so handy. I am planning to paint my living room, hall, and bedroom.

The chiseled brush for edging because that is always the hardest part for me. Theses brushes look very well made.
Lisa says
Erin I love your family room plan! The wood tone from the dresser is such a pretty balance to the cooler tones and Gray Owl looks gorgeous in there.
