Over the weekend, my mom and step-dad were in town visiting. Lucky for me, my stepdad is quite handy and gave our fireplace area a nice little makeover. In case you don’t remember, our built-ins surrounding the fireplace were missing doors and moulding. Well, not anymore! He did a great job, and it looks much better.
Here is a photo of the fireplace before:
And here it is after:
He added doors which I painted, and crown moulding at the top and to fill the gaps at the bottom/sides where it had been removed for some unknown reason. I am really excited about these changes. I’m not really sure why the built-ins had no doors. Now we can hide lots of junk in there! I mean, now we can store things in a very organized manner in there.
Did you work on any home projects this weekend? I’d love to hear about them! Leave me a comment and let me know!
What a difference! It looks so nice.
Thank you!
Wow Erin, what a big difference. Looks great! I hope you had a nice Easter!
Thanks Lori! Hope you had a wonderful Easter also.
Oh, I see. It’s amazing what two little doors do the appearance. I’ll bet you feel whole in this room now 🙂 I’m getting up the nerve to refinish a butler’s table. It’s new, but I think would look better with a distressed look.

Yes, we are very happy to finally have doors! Also, the moulding had been ripped off the fireplace at the top and bottom/sides, so there were big gaps beside the fireplace on each side and you could see the outline of where it had been removed at the top. It looked awful!
Good luck with the butler’s table. Sounds like a fun project!
