Kid’s Colored Chalkboard Table

August 28, 2012 By Erin Spain 13 Comments

Kid's Colored Chalkboard Table {Benjamin Moore's NEW colored chalkboard paint: Champion Cobalt}

I was recently given the opportunity to try out some new colored chalkboard paint by Benjamin Moore, and I thought it would be the perfect chance to convert my boys’ little IKEA table into a colored chalkboard table. It had peeled from the heat and needed to be refinished anyway. This paint is available in 3,400 colors at Benjamin Moore retail locations. I chose a really pretty shade of blue called Champion Cobalt.

I went ahead and repainted the table base and chairs in Benjamin Moore White Diamond, which I had left over from a few previous projects. Then, I primed the top and painted 2 coats of the chalkboard paint. I allowed it to cure for 3 days, per the instructions; then to prep the surface for its first use, I covered the top in chalk and wiped it down with a damp rag before I unleashed the boys on it.

So far, it’s been a big hit with the kids! Who needs paper when you can just draw directly on the table? There are so many fun options for this paint. Since it comes in so many colors, you could paint the walls and have it blend in with your decor perfectly. Painted furniture would be fun too. It cleans up easily, and when I wipe it down it looks as good as new. I know my boys are going to have so much fun with this table!

Thank you, Benjamin Moore, for letting me have the first run with this paint! This was a really fun project for me and one that my children can enjoy too.

    Erin, this is adorable! I have a little set like this from Ikea, that desperately needs to be painted. I cannot wait to try this. I also love the colors!

    Great job! What kid wouldn’t love a chalkboard table? Love how you wrote the “title” on the tabletop. 🙂
