Teen Boy Bedroom Reveal

March 18, 2021 By Erin Spain 1 Comment

First of all, you may have noticed that the title of this post is Teen Boy Bedroom Reveal. That’s right, TEEN. You guys I am going to have a teenager in just a couple short weeks and I am NOT OKAY. Ha but that is not why you’re here. You’re here so I can show you Aiden’s bedroom at my new house! (P.S. If you missed my new house tour you can check that out here, and my move-in vlog here.) When I moved in, my top priority was making my boys’ rooms as cozy as possible so they would feel at home from day one. I ran around like a crazy person getting their rooms ready for them, and today I’m revealing the first one, which is Aiden’s bedroom. (You can see the entire room makeover video on my YouTube channel here.)

This is what his room looked like when we moved in. Very … beige. Not awful, but we definitely needed to transform it into the perfect room for a soon to be teenager. (I wince every time I type that, seriously.)

THE DESIGN PLAN

The first thing I usually do when I’m designing a room is create a moodboard, so that’s what I did. I put together the general color scheme and vibe I was going for in the room, and sourced a few things I knew I wanted to include.

Aiden had 3 requests for this room: the color orange; a bookshelf; and a chair to sit and lounge in. I honored these requests and tried to build the design in a way that would incorporate these elements and suit his style.

PAINT

Next, I painted the room, and I have to give a major shout-out to BEHR for providing the paint for this space. I used BEHR Ultra™ Scuff Defense™ paint in an eggshell finish in the color “Polar Bear” for the walls. It’s a true white with maybe the slightest hint of a cool undertone. I used the same type of paint in a satin finish in the color “White 52” for the trim and doors.

Are you ready to see it?

THE REVEAL

Major shout-out to Tuft & Needle for providing the world’s most comfortable mattress, no joke. I am obsessed and Aiden loves it too. They were kind enough to send us their Tuft & Needle Mint mattress with antimicrobial protection. According to their site, “Using microsilver and vesicle technologies, bacteria is broken down, eliminated, and prevented from causing odor.” Sounds perfect for a boy’s room for sure!

It’s a luxury foam mattress that doesn’t break the bank, and it arrives in a box and expands when you unpackage it. He’s been sleeping on it for a few weeks now and loves it, and he recently roomed with Jake and let my mom use his room when she came to visit and she also commented on how comfortable it is.

Mohawk Home provided the rug for the room and I absolutely love it. It’s the Mohawk Home Sahana Transitional Ornamental Area Rug in Grey. It’s sort of a “greige” (grayish beige) and the perfect neutral shade.

Lights.com provided the floor lamp, and I love the modern flare it adds to the room. It’s the Castell 2 Globe Floor Lamp in Aged Brass. You can score 15% off your purchase at Lights.com from now through May 31, 2021 by using code ERIN15 at checkout.

I will probably add window treatments of some kind later on, but since it’s a rental I am a bit limited in what I can do. I love bamboo shades but I can’t drill into the window frame, so I will probably hang curtains.

I purchased a super cheap desk (from Walmart of all places!) because I didn’t have time to build one and he needs one for digital learning days. In order to save space, it also serves as his nightstand.

Of course I had to bring my IKEA hack dresser! This is still one of my very favorite projects.

As for everything else, here is a source list:

Overall, Aiden loves his room and I’m happy with how it turned out. It’s nice and cozy and perfect for a soon to be teenage boy.
