I recently realized that apparently I have a thing for building desks. I’ve built a few in the past year so I thought it might be fun to share those, along with several other DIY desk ideas I’ve rounded up for you. So if you’re looking for DIY desk inspo, you’ve come to the right place!
My desk-making obsession began with this DIY plywood desk that I built for my two older boys’ shared bedroom. They’ve actually gotten a lot of use out of it, which makes me happy. I built this as part of a maker challenge to build something using one sheet of plywood, and then I got hooked and starting using plywood much more frequently.
After I built their desk, I decided to build a modified mini version for my youngest son, Jonah. This plywood kid’s desk was so much fun to design and build! Those panels on the front are attached with magnets and have hidden storage behind them.
Last year I participated in the FrogTape PaintOver challenge where I made over our guest bedroom. For that room makeover, I made this DIY floating desk. I loved it so much that I replicated it and made the same one for my niece so that I could film the process for my YouTube channel. (You can find the YouTube tutorial here.)
Now let’s check out some of the other DIY desk inspo I’ve rounded up for you!
Check out this beautiful DIY Chippendale Desk from Jenna at Rain on a Tin Roof. I love the lines, and glossy white was the perfect choice for this piece.
This DIY Industrial Computer Desk from The Handyman’s Daughter is awesome too! She’s sharing free plans on her site. Those metal accents are a great way to add an industrial touch to this desk.
This DIY built-in U-shaped desk by Charleston Crafted is really cool too! This would be perfect for a homework station or an arts and crafts room, or for someone like me who works from home.
This DIY Murphy Desk is a cool space-saving idea from A Turtle’s Life For Me. This is a great solution for small spaces.
This IKEA RAST desk hack by Ariel at PMQ for Two is absolutely stunning! I love this idea. I always love seeing new and unique spins on this particular piece from IKEA, and I really like the two-toned look she went with.
Anika from Anika’s DIY Life built this DIY modern farmhouse desk with storage, and she’s sharing build plans and a video on her site. Love it! The white and wood combo is really pretty.
Ashley from Handmade Haven built this stunning desk for under $100! I love the “V” base and the stain color she chose is perfection.
This post could go on forever because there is an endless number of amazingly creative DIY desk ideas floating around on the web, many of which my blog and YouTube friends have built! I wish I could share them all. Let me know if any of these ideas inspired you, and if you end up building one I would love to see it!
