This post has been a long time coming! I made over my boys’ bedrooms before we fully moved into this house, but so much has been going on and I’ve been so busy that I haven’t had a chance to share this makeover yet. If you missed Aiden’s “teen boy” room makeover, you can check that one out here (or the YouTube video here). Today I’m sharing another boys’ bedroom makeover, but this time it’s Jake and Jonah’s shared bedroom. Let’s get into it!

Here’s a look at the space before. It was a blank slate.
First, I put together a mood board to get a general feel for the look of the room and the vibe I was going for. I sourced products and played around with seeing what everything would look like together.
And here’s a look at the space now:
Jake’s one request for the room was the color blue, so I went with navy blue bedding. I decided to pay homage to the playroom I recently made over for them at the other house which had a blue and orange color scheme, and I used the same type of orange round pillows on the beds.
Big thanks to BEHR for providing the paint for this space! I used BEHR Scuff Defense paint in “Polar Bear” for the walls, and “White 52” for the trim and doors. The ceiling slopes in this room so the walls are pretty high on one side, so I faced my fear of heights and climbed a tall ladder to get the top of the walls. (You can see that process in the YouTube video.)
I love their new beds! I opted for Mid-Century style twin beds with spindle headboards. I also assembled the new dresser which matches their beds. It’s Mid-Century style in a Caramel wood finish. Thank you to Mohawk Home for providing the Prismatic EverStrand Mila rug for this room. I wanted something with a little bit of pattern but still neutral enough to go with anything, and this was perfect.
Major thanks to Tuft & Needle for providing their Mint mattresses for the room. We got the same type for Aiden’s room and I can’t say enough good things about them. They’re so comfortable, they are protected against microbes, and they use technology that breaks down bacteria which prevents odor.
I put my old IKEA desk in here as well as a pair of modern table lamps that I brought from the dining room at the old house. I also brought over their llama print from their room at the other house.
Finally, I hung a pair of oversized framed photographs above the beds. I took the photos several years ago in the tunnel at Dragon Park in Nashville. I love these photos of my boys. They were in my bedroom at the old house, and I had the prints enlarged and then found oversized frames at a hotel liquidation warehouse for $9 each! I painted them BEHR “Elephant Skin” gray. You can’t beat that price for frames that large.
There are still some things I’d like to do in here, like add a lot more art on the walls eventually, etc. But for now it’s a nice, livable space for my two little guys and they seem happy with it. By the way I always get asked this question so I’ll mention their toys are in a basket in the closet and usually there are LEGO pieces covering the desk and dresser but I did put those away to shoot photos of the space. I do not deprive my children of toys. Haha! Apparently some folks believe that to be the case if you don’t display them in blog photos so I just wanted to clear that up.
Here’s a source list for this room:
Beds / Rug / Bedding / Orange Pillows / Desk Lamps / Dresser / Small Bedside Tables / Bedside Table Lamps / Desk Chair / Mattresses
The desk is from IKEA and llama art is from HomeGoods.
I look forward to sharing my new home with you more as it evolves! Check out the YouTube video for this room makeover here:
